Information for athletes, coaches and officials

The World Anti-Doping Agency List of Prohibited Substances has nine classes of drugs which are prohibited by most sports.  These drugs are banned because they meet at least two of the following three criteria:

• They are performance enhancing,
• Harmful to health, and
• Against the spirit of sport.

Some recreational drugs are banned by sports and will be tested for in a drug test. Others are not banned, but can have a negative effect on performance.
